Lots of whining about Swine

I don’t know about you, but it seems as if you cannot get through a day without hearing the words SWINE, FLU, or H1N1 multiple times a day. Of course Swine Flu is a very serious concern and people are going out of there way to not get sick. More than ever before, people are being extremely proactive about killing germs.

College students are constantly going from place to place where it is impossible to stop the spread of germs. It’s certainly tough to stay healthy on campus when people on the bus, at the dining hall, and those next to you in lecture halls are sniffling, coughing, and sneezing. The daily routine of a college student includes situations such as using school computers in the library, touching public door handles, using community bathrooms, sitting at classroom desks where germs never fail in “hanging out.” As a result, hand sanitizer seems to be the coolest thing since sliced bread. Everywhere you look people are encouraging the use of sanitizer and even giving away free samples. The idea of killing germs with such a handy method when on the go seems to be a great one. But is hand sanitizer the way to go? Does sanitizer really kill germs as effectively as it is advertised?

  1. Word on the street is that antibacterial products do more harm than good. I prefer building my skin’s natural immunity by using regular hand soaps.
